The Craft & The Community: 'Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Making it a three-show holiday convo trifecta, this week, we took a moment to listen in to hear what Grinch-going audience members thought about Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.

This 26-year San Diego holiday tradition had a lot of costumed kiddos in the house and a few were eager to chat!

My thoughts?

  • It's always fun to see the shifts in the cast from year to year, but Andrew Polec remains strong as the lead grouch of this Christmas tale.

  • The new young Max, Tommy Martinez, is a sweetly portrayed pup. He draws empathy with his nuanced facial expressions and acting.

  • Staging and transitions were spot on for the production that I saw for the most part (though there was one quick snafu with a trap door and a jump rope). Kudos to the stage management team and crew; this is not an easy show to call or staff, and everything moving so seamlessly adds to the feeling of holiday magic (as does the quick remediation when there is an issue).

Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas runs through Dec. 31.
